Scientific name: The raccoon's scientific name is Procyon lotor .
Description: Raccoons are about 24-36 inches long and weigh about 8-19 pounds. Raccoons have a gray coat, black mask, and a black ringed tail. Raccoons move with their front legs and back legs. Raccoons are very agile; they can climb up trees fast. Raccoons have very interesting features; they can remember a solution for a specific task for about three years. They are also one of the few animals that can go head first while descending from a tree. Raccoons can live for 20 years; however, in the wild they only live for 1.3 years to 3.1 years, depending on local conditions like hunting, weather, and traffic.
Offspring : Female raccoons give birth to a litter of 3-7 baby raccoons, known as cubs or kits, between March and May. The young remain with their mother for one year. However, baby raccoons mostly lose their mothers from starvation.
Predators : The predators of the raccoons are bobcats and coyotes.
Diet : Raccoons eat crayfish, earthworms, fruit, and corn.
Habitat : Raccoons are common in North America to Panama. Raccoons live in forests.
