Scientific name- The Red Bellied Woodpecker's scientific name is Melanerpes Carolinus.
Habitat- Their habitat is woodlands, groves, orchards, towns. Most common habitat is in the Deciduous forests, especially along rivers and in swamps.
Diet- Their diet is many insects. Diet may be more than 50% plants, including many acorns and other fruits and nuts. Sometimes they eat tree frogs ,eggs of small birds, oozing sap, and small fish.
Offspring- Woodpeckers usually lay 4-5 eggs, and when they hatch they are fed by both male and female. They leave the nest after 22-27 days after hatching.
Predators- Their predators are birds of prey, black rat snakes, and house cats. The predators of their nestlings and eggs include owls and snakes.
